Service Description

Saturdays, 10:00am - 12:00pm Beginner to Advanced, Ages 5-12 Ceramics teach a number of a valuable skills, including perseverance, patience, problem solving, and creativity! Bring your kiddos in to come and play with clay and learn how to use this fun medium to create functional and decorative pieces. We'll alternate between learning the basics of handbuilding, wheel throwing, and glazing each week, so sign your kids up for multiple sessions to give them the full experience! Each student will proudly come out of class with at least one or two ceramic pieces that they built themselves. Ceramic artists and experienced teachers, Mindy Curran & Ben Alexander, will facilitate this class. Some weeks, this offering will coincide with our ongoing Figure Painting class, meaning you'll get a sneak peek into the world of life drawing! These artists are okay with a reasonable amount of noise/disruption during class, but we ask everyone to be respectful of other classes. Figure models will be asked to wear kid-appropriate attire for these sessions. Space in our clay studio is limited, and in the interest of ensuring we can accommodate everyone, pre-registration for our clay offerings is a requirement. Showing up for an offering without registering through our website does not guarantee you a spot, and means you may be turned away. If you're interested in registering for this offering at a discount, check out our "Cat Clay Multipasses," from the "Memberships & Passes" tab of our website. While multipasses are not required for this class, they can be applied to the following offerings: - Community Clay Studio Pottery Wheel - Community Clay Studio Handbuilding - Kids' Clay Play Please bring with you: - Clothes that can get dirty, and/or an apron - Water in container with spill-proof lid - Layered clothing While shelf space is included, we ask that you do not leave projects unattended in the studio for longer than 2 weeks at a time, to ensure we have enough shelf space for those who are actively working on a project. Additionally, please return to pick up finished pieces within 2 weeks of firing. Scholarships are available for those who otherwise would not be able to attend art classes, thanks to generous donations to our Art Start Fund. If you would like to support (y)our commUNITY by making classes available to others, see our sponsorships page. Thank you!
