A visual artist based in Boise, Kayla works primarily in painting and mixed media. A lifelong creator, she began drawing and painting as a child, eventually earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in drawing and painting from Boise State University. In addition to her studio practice, she shares her passion for the arts as a K-12 visual arts educator.

Kayla's work explores the interaction of light, color, and memory within the natural world. Deeply inspired by nature and a sense of place, she often paints en plein air, capturing fleeting moments with bold, impressionistic brushstrokes. Her medium of choice is oil paint, which she uses expressively-pushing and pulling the pigment across the surface to evoke emotion, atmosphere, and movement.
Her work has been featured in both solo and group exhibitions across local and regional galleries, and can also be seen in Meridian Idaho as part of a public art installation. Rooted in both observation and experience, Kayla's paintings offer a vibrant, interpretive lens through which to view the Idaho landscapes that surround us.
Kayla regularly attends and hosts Raptor Night here at the Catalyst, which inspired her current birds of prey series.
