Service Description

3-week course: Sundays, November 2 -November 16 , 5:30pm - 7:30pm Ages 15+ Do you love nature and find yourself in awe of the complexity, texture, and dimension of natural forms? Interested in learning a unique medium to express that feeling? Paper Landscapes is for you! This class focuses on the foundations of paper collage and landscape composition. Students will learn how to take their own reference photo and transform it into a visually interesting paper collage. Learn to examine light and value within your reference and utilize layers of paper to create depth and dimension to your piece. Landscape paper collage is therapeutic. The imperfect shapes and jagged edges of ripped paper allow us to accept imperfections and let go of precision during the artistic process. This course is about letting go, embracing nature, and building complex forms from imperfect shapes. Course Curriculum: Week 1: Intro to Paper Collage and Landscape Composition. Week 2: Draft and Begin Your Composition (Bring your own reference photo!). Week 3: Finish & Seal your Paper Landscape Project. The Lifetime Ahead: Leave this class with the skills to create your own paper projects in the future, inspired by the natural scenes that inspire you! All other supplies will be provided by Catalyst and your instructor. Please bring the following with you: - Reference Photo of a landscape that inspires you! About your instructor: Mallory is a mixed media artist in Boise easily inspired by nature and movement. Much of her work is created in plein air while hiking, skiing, and backpacking. She explores a variety of mediums including paper, plaster, linocut, digital design, and upcycled materials. As a full time speech-language pathologist, Mallory believes art is the most powerful form of communication. Mallory leads community art events in Boise through Yoga Should Be Free, Boise Creative Women Collective, and Wild Hearts Idaho. After moving to Boise from Denver, her very first art class was at Catalyst, where she met her now best friend. Then, she participated in her first art show - Art and Roses, hosted by Catalyst! The Catalyst has been a source of creative expression, community, and encouragement for Mallory.
