Intuitive Art Making, Sat, 1:30pm
Find your artistic voice through intuitive prompts, playful materials, and personal meaning! Age 18+
Service Description
6-week limited series (**register for each session separately**): Saturdays, Sept 6 - Oct 11, 1:30pm - 3:30pm Ages 18+ This special, expressive arts series is about process, play, and finding your artistic voice, whether you’re a practiced artist or feeling creatively stuck. Each week, we’ll experiment with a new medium (think wire, collage, color, photo embroidery, found objects, and more) to explore themes like intuition, symbolism, flow, and what truly inspires you. There’s no pressure to make “good art.” Instead, this class offers space to reflect, loosen up, and create alongside others who are craving the same thing. You’ll leave with a handful of experimental pieces, fresh perspective, a stronger sense of your own style, and a little more trust in your creativity. Session curriculum: 9/6, COLOR THEORY: an unstructured color-to-paper journey of expression through feeling/intuition to reveal authentic vision. 9/13, WIRE SCULPTURE: an exploration of how simplicity, constraint, and working in a medium you’re not familiar with can bring insight to other areas of skill/interest/expertise. 9/20, PAPER SCULPTURE and VISUAL POETRY: a lesson in giving shape to thought, and externalizing our internal world using humble (but infinitely powerful!) pen and paper in 2D and 3D form. 9/27, COLLAGE: a quest for meaningful and contextualized symbolism, patterns, absurdity, and personal expression that transcends boundaries and reality. 10/4, PHOTO EMBROIDERY: an intentional deep dive into finding inspiration in the mundane and giving life, narrative and energy to the ordinary for impact, connection, and true artistic vision. 10/11, FOUND OBJECT SCULPTURE/SHADOW BOXES: our limited series finale session focuses on object narrative via resourcefulness, upcycling and juxtaposition to express themes that connect on a personal, creative, passionate, and meaningful level. About your instructor: Sugar May is a British American multi-media artist and life model, with a special emphasis on comics. She works in a 1940s/50s vintage aesthetic, and is dedicated to exploring and supporting themes in and around the female experience. Originally trained in London (hair and makeup design), her various works and performances have seen her both on screen, behind the scenes, in galleries, on stage, and in collaboration with the BBC, Disney, Marvel, DC, Netflix and more.
