Build an Online Portfolio, 9/12-10/3

Beginner-Intermediate 4-week course: Saturdays, Sept 12 - Oct 3, 1:30pm - 3:30pm Ages 11+ In this course, students will be building their online portfolio from start to launch! Your online portfolio is your ever-evolving business card, your traveling case filled with everything you've ever created. It's your artistic identity when you can't talk directly with your audience. Having a portfolio online opens your artwork to exposure all over the world! It makes submitting your artwork to galleries or shows simple and is the professional touch needed if you're looking to expand your art career. WEEK 1: Setting Things Up *Note! Purchase a domain name and hosting prior to the first day of class. I can walk you through this step in class if needed, but please be prepared to make that purchase before you can move forward in the class. Install/Setup WordPress: WordPress Install & Setup, Installing needed plugins, Installing a Theme, Creating Pages/Placeholders (You will create 3 standard pages/sections plus a gallery page - Home - About - Gallery - Contact) Homework: Write your website content and save it in notepad or word etc. Make sure to label for each page. WEEK 2: Get Images Ready Photograph or Scan & Upload Artwork: We’re not making PRINT READY scans here, just web ready. I will bring my small flatbed scanner, a digital high power camera and most phones have powerful enough cameras as well. Layout & Design: We’ll spend some time working on the presentation of images in the portfolio Add Content: If you have not added your saved content to their pages, we’ll drop that in now WEEK 3: Make It Yours Customize Theme and Design: We’ll now go through the website and adjust the theme colors, fonts, layout and design to match YOUR ARTIST BRAND. You are creating your online persona now! Spread The Word: If you have social media, now is the time to start spreading the word about your new online portfolio before the big launch! If you are not on social media but have been thinking about it, we can use this time to get you started. WEEK 4 - Final Proof & Launch Final Content & Fixes: Add in or fix any content/images from last week, We will review each other’s sites! Please bring the following with you: - A laptop - Pre-registered domain name - Small & basic hosting plans *The company used is up to you, (EX: GoDaddy, Bluehost, and Hostgator) Optional to bring: - A camera to photograph your work
