Sgraffito: Advanced Clay Techniques 8/14

Service Description

1-day workshop: Friday, August 14, 2:30pm - 4:30pm Ages 11+ Expand your clay horizons with this ancient design technique! In this workshop, you will explore the art of sgraffito: learning how to create your own unique designs and bring them to life through carving. You’ll be introduced to a variety of tools and methods, giving you the flexibility to achieve your desired aesthetic and level of detail. Participants will get hands-on experience by carving their designs onto a piece of pottery. You’re welcome to bring your own piece to personalize, or you can purchase a blank one on-site if needed. Throughout the session, your instructor will provide one-on-one guidance, offering personalized feedback and support to help refine your technique and ensure a successful final piece. Please bring the following with you: - Your own piece of pottery at leather-hard stage OR we will have leather hard pieces available for purchase for use during workshop Optional to bring: - Inspiration or reference photos - Rough draft of design ideas About your instructor: Emily is a full-time artist based in Kuna, ID. Over the past decade she has practiced a variety of arts and crafts: from leather to fiber arts, acrylic painting to pottery. This range of skills has allowed her to borrow inspiration and techniques across disciplines, to create unique and expressive works of art. As a teacher, Emily is patient, attentive, and committed. She has more than 15 years of leadership experience including teaching, coaching, and facilitating groups with both children and adults. She knows that each person's learning style is unique, and is happy to adapt her methods to meet individual needs. She is new to working with Catalyst Arts Collaborative, but is excited to join their mission of bringing artistic expression to the local community!
