Service Description

Ongoing, biweekly Sundays: 3:00pm - 5:00pm *The session on 8/24 will be from 3:30pm - 5:30pm* Ages 11+ Join us and learn to create detailed textures, observe how shadows behave (and misbehave), and explore how light and texture work together to bring life to your work. Led by Brandy, a detail-oriented artist with a taste for the quirky and a flair for the "creepy-but-cute," each session dives into the real art of seeing: not just what you think is there, but what actually is. You'll be building your eye and using your imagination to create the kinds of details that make drawings pop, or creep. Each class we will discuss the fundamentals of drawing, like pencil/pen strokes, lead values and hand pressure while working on creating a new texture(s), or understanding shadows and light. Get ready to stretch that imagination and create a unique piece you can take home with you, or build skills to add to your artwork later. Please bring the following with you: - Pencil set ranging in value from 2H - 8B - Smooth drawing paper/sketchbook - Blending sticks - Kneadable and regular erasers About your instructor: Brandy is a self-taught artist known for her highly detailed, imaginative drawings in pencil and ink. Her work blends surreal textures with a unique aesthetic often described as “creepy but cute.” With a style that ranges from meticulous pencil realism to expressive ink stippling and scribble techniques, Brandy brings curiosity and creativity to every piece she creates. Originally from Arizona and now based in Boise, Brandy has been drawing since she was 12 and brings a fun, upbeat, and imaginative energy to every class she teaches. Her goal is to help students see the world differently and find their own creative voice through drawing. Scholarships for this and all of our other classes are available for those who otherwise would not be able to attend art classes, thanks to generous donations to our Art Start Fund. If you would like to make classes available to others, see our sponsorships page to contribute a monthly or one-time donation. Thank you for supporting (y)our commUNITY!
