My name is Mitsuko Lili. I was born and raised in Boise, Idaho and I have always enjoyed making art. I have a BFA in Illustration from Boise State University where I learned a variety of mediums that I implement in my methods today. I enjoy learning new techniques and continuing to practice and grow as an artist. My work is constantly changing. I enjoy using bright colors and often include strategic lines, shapes, and complimentary designs. My art is careful and has a somewhat mathematic approach in how I start an idea on paper, yet the final can be described as fun and playful. I explore themes of nostalgia and seeking one’s self that can be overlooked in the mundane of the everyday. While my art aims to visualize a narrative related to practicing mindfulness, the purpose of my work is to center the viewer and find something that may have been missed upon first glance. In turn, the detail oriented nature of my art as well as the use of contrasting and vibrant colors is enticing and it forces the viewer to look carefully and slowly. My art is associated with the present day, but my hope is to evoke a memory response from the viewer that may have been forgotten through time.
