I have been doing ceramics since 7th grade, all the way through high school, college and beyond! In 2016 I taught pottery and ceramics at a summer camp in Michigan for students between the ages of 8-18. They learned how to make whistles, ceramic looms, bowls and cups on the wheel, and lots of other fun ceramic projects that they could take home and show their parents! My favorite type of ceramics is hand-building, therefore, most of my classes start out with a quick lesson on the basics of wedging, pinch, coil, and slab techniques. I like to teach about how to make functional, whimsical ceramic pieces, and I always like to encourage my students to push their limits and build BIG! I have also taught classes at Idaho Job Corps for students 16-24 years of age geared towards building projects for others. For example, we entered art into various community projects in the treasure valley, including making spirit cat houses for the Garden City Community Cat Project, and fairy houses for the Idaho Botanical Garden exhibit.
