Dr. Laura Burlingame-Lee
she/her
Teacher
Laura Burlingame-Lee is a psychologist, writer, and artist who has been creating since childhood. She remembers being told by her kindergarten teacher that one could not draw a tree that was red and purple. Since then, her artistic mission has been to rebel and prove the naysayers wrong. She loves to integrate imagination, creativity, and vitality into her life and work. Laura has been journaling since about age 12. She always loved to put stickers, doodles, and inspirational pictures and quotes in her journal, but when she discovered art journaling, after finding Lucia Capocchione's book, The Creative Journal," her creativity exploded.
She has taken classes in printmaking, book binding, seminars on paper making, and creating artists' books, Visual Journaling, and is trained to be a SoulCollage® facilitator. While she is not a trained art therapist, she integrates art activities into the psychotherapy she provides, when appropriate (including her own work on well-being and growth). Some of her favorite activities not use in therapy include visual journaling, mask-making, affirmation banners, boo making, emotion monsters, expressive writing, and "meme cards." Laura does not exhibit or sell her work at this time, but enjoys sharing techniques and knowledge. Laura has written a book on using journaling for healing and well-being called, "Loving the Questions," which she hopes to have published.
