1 day workshop: Saturday, April 13, 2:00pm - 6:30pm Learn to carve a block of wood, ink it, and create an exciting woodblock print in this hands-on, relaxed class. Not only will you create a woodblock carving which can be used to create multiple prints, but the wood itself can be a beautiful work to display and alter into a new artwork. Students will carve a unique woodblock, and may make a series of up to 5 cards from their woodblock during class. Students can bring their own 6" x 8" drawing to create their series, or designs will be provided. Participants will learn about necessary concepts and techniques like utilizing positive and negative space, and mirror image thinking as they carve their woodblock. Professional artist and experienced teacher, Gretchen Weitemier, will be your guide. All supplies are included. While all students should be able to carve independently with sharp chisels after instructions on safe use, all experience levels are welcome! Optional items to bring with you: - Layered clothing, as the temperatures may be difficult to manage in the building - Water/beverage with lid Optional items to bring: - A 6" x 8" drawing to use as your design (designs will also be provided for inspiration) If a minimum of 3 participants is not reached, the class may be rescheduled. Open to ages 12+. Scholarships for this and all of our other classes are available for those who otherwise would not be able to attend art classes, thanks to generous donations to our Art Start Fund. If you would like to make classes available to others, see our sponsorships page to contribute a monthly or one-time donation. Thank you for supporting (y)our commUNITY!
