Service Description

2-week course: Sundays, January 12 - January 19, 10:00am - 12:30pm Ages 15+ Explore the art of Distemper painting, a time-honored technique that combines pigment and hide glue to create vibrant, original works of art. In this intermediate, hands-on class, you'll learn how to mix your own paint and discover the unique properties of this traditional medium. In our first class, we’ll dive into the creative process by preparing our paper and creating vibrant paints, setting the stage to begin using the material we had created. By the second class, we’ll revive our paints and bring our masterpieces to life! Course schedule: Week 1: Preparation and paint making Week 2: Painting! *This offering is not vegan; we use a hide glue as binder for the pigment. All supplies (Pigment, Dust masks, Jars, Rabbit Skin Glue, Pot, Burner, Gloves, Muller, Marble Slab, Containers for paint, etc.) will be provided by the instructor or by Catalyst. List of optional items to bring: - A sketchbook for ideas and notes! - Layered clothing - Water/beverage with lid Prerequisites: - Basic knowledge of painting Willow Wells, a New England artist inspired by the symbolism of old cemeteries and folklore, brings a unique depth to her work in painting, drawing, and printmaking. With a BFA from Lyme Academy and an MFA from the University of South Florida, she is skilled in traditional techniques that enrich her courses in printmaking, lithography, and paint-making. Willow's art invites reflection on the transformation of the human experience, making her classes an inspiring space for exploration and creative growth. Scholarships for this and all of our other classes are available for those who otherwise would not be able to attend art classes, thanks to generous donations to our Art Start Fund.
