Service Description
4-week course: Saturdays, September 28 - October 19, 1:30pm - 4:00pm Ages 14+ "En plein air," French for "to paint in the open air." This class will introduce students to plein air painting basics, choosing a subject, quickly planning a composition, defining a focal point with contrast and color, and working with shifting conditions of nature. Students may work in their choice of mediums and will leave with more experience in drawing from life, atmospheric perspective, use of values to define composition, and quick and complete painting techniques. Each class will be held on location at various parks in Boise. The class will be held outdoors each week, beginning at Kathryn Albertson Park (following locations to be announced). We will have an alternate plan in place in case of inclement weather. Experienced, classically-trained plein air painter, Jessica Henry will be your guide. Perfect for beginning and intermediate artists. Students should have basic knowledge of their chosen medium. Ages 14 to adult welcome. Please bring the following with you: - The medium(s) you prefer to work in (watercolor, oils, acrylics, watercolor pencil, ink, etc.) Suggested colors: titanium white, yellow ochre, alizarin crimson, raw umber, ultramarine blue, hookers green (Optional additional colors: cadmium yellow, cerulean blue, prussian blue) - Large, medium, and small detail brush - Canvas or paper, suitable for your medium of choice - Any additional supplies you might want on hand Optional: - A travel easel and/or stool/chair if you have one you can bring (Please note any items you may need to borrow from the Catalyst classroom in the accommodations section when booking and we will provide one for you as we are able.) - Layered clothing/sun protection - Water bottle Scholarships for this and all of our other classes are available for those who otherwise would not be able to attend art classes, thanks to generous donations to our Art Start Fund.
