Service Description

One-day workshop: Saturday, October 5, 1:00 - 4:00pm Ages 18+ Have you always wanted to learn to crochet, but didn't know where to start? This workshop will provide you the basic skills and knowledge to crochet a small project. It will include a brief overview of the history and mechanics of crochet before diving in to the fundamentals. We will learn how to start a project with a chain and the basics of two types of stitches, before students grab their hook and yarn to learn about the tools of the trade. The instructor will provide demonstrations of each step using a projector, and help students individually as they get started. Students will end the class with several handouts and resources, including a beginner pattern, to continue their crochet journey with their hook and yarn. It all starts with a stick and string, and you will be making crocheted magic in no time! Being able to crochet enables a person to make their own garments, accessories, household items, soft toys, even jewelry! The ability to make your own (or, to make for others!) clothing means you are able to make and wear EXACTLY what you want. Crochet provides a creative outlet that is not only therapeutic, it also supports sustainable fashion. The nature of crochet also lends itself to those adventurous creatives who want to pave their own way and pursue freeform creations. All materials are provided for this offering. Optional items to bring: - Water in a spill-proof container - Layered clothing Scholarships for this and all of our other classes are available for those who otherwise would not be able to attend art classes, thanks to generous donations to our Art Start Fund. If you would like to make classes available to others, see our sponsorships page to contribute a monthly or one-time donation. Thank you for supporting (y)our commUNITY! *This class is included in our Teacher Share program, which allows our teachers to expand their knowledge and skills by learning from one another at no cost.
