Service Description

1-day class: Saturday, November 15, 1:30pm - 4:30pm Ages 18+ (or 11+ with parent) The holidays can be a challenging time for anyone, but grieving a loss or going through a major life change can often exacerbate the stress of the season. If you're experiencing these worries ahead of the holidays, you are not alone. While the holidays are often celebrated as a time of fun, reunion and good cheer, they can also serve as a difficult reminder for what one has lost. Carrie Panzer, LCSW, will lead this expressive arts class that includes education about grief and mourning, and some practical tools for coping with a range of emotions. This workshop is open to all skill levels and identities, and will use a mix of personal and interactive exercises, short guided meditations, and expressive journaling and collage. While this in-depth workshop will cover these topics and offer tools for understanding and dealing with grief in the context of the holidays, the skills and knowledge you'll take away will benefit you year-round. Please bring the following supplies with you: - 9x12" or 11x14" sketchbook with blank pages, spiral bound or otherwise, that will lie flat when opened - Optional: Any journaling/art materials that you might like to use. For example: colored pencils, water color pencils, markers, gel pens, etc. Many options will also be provided. All other materials are included. Disclaimer: Please be aware that these non-clinical sessions aren't confidential and participants shouldn't reveal anything they don't want to be publicly known. If there are any signs of self-harm or harm to others, the facilitator is required by law to call the police to seek help. We cannot treat any illnesses. About your instructor: Carrie Panzer, LCSW (she/her), is a licensed clinical social worker and Be Body Positive Facilitator with a Master of Social Work from Columbia University. Throughout her multifaceted career, she has been dedicated to helping others, specializing in anxiety, body image, healthy boundaries, coping with cancer, and grief and loss. Carrie believes that expressive arts offer a powerful way to step outside the stories we tell ourselves and reconnect with authenticity. Drawing from her own experience of the healing potential of group artmaking, she creates spaces where participants can explore and release emotions through collage, journaling, found poetry, sketching, and other creative exercises.
