4 Options: November 9, 7:00pm-8:30pm November 10, 11:00am-12:30pm November 12, 1:00pm-2:30pm November 16, 7:00pm-8:30pm (online) This class will serve as an introduction to Expressive Arts, where the focus is on the process of exploration rather than the finished product. No artistic training or experience is required and the course will not offer technical tips - messy is best for this class! We will use short, multi-modal creative projects to develop a common understanding of our emotional states and reactions. The activities will instruct the participants to tune into their emotional knowledge using the specified medium. By using a variety of approaches to the same topic we will gain a new perspective on our relationship to each emotional state as well as how our reactions may be similar or different from others in the class, thereby expanding our capacity for compassion. The intent is to provide a safe space that is lighthearted and fun in addition to allowing attendees an opportunity for connection and collaboration. This program is designed to help develop tools that can be used to tune into and process emotions during difficult times for healthier internal and group outcomes. Janelle Wilson, certified Social Emotional Arts instructor, will facilitate this class. The concepts presented in this class can be used in a wide variety of creative pursuits, both in the arts as well as in daily life. By gathering in a small group setting to discuss and create, we will learn to see each other’s experiences with empathy and begin to form a more cohesive and supportive community. This course will help us process our personal and collective experiences in a compassionate and authentic setting. Space is currently limited to 15 people per session. Open to ages 18+. All supplies will be provided, except for the online class. A link will be provided for the online class via email within 48 hours of class start. Scholarships for this and all of our other classes are available for those who otherwise would not be able to attend art classes, thanks to generous donations to our Art Start Fund. If you would like to make classes available to others, see our sponsorships page to contribute a monthly or one-time donation. Thank you for supporting (y)our commUNITY!
