Service Description

1-day workshops (register for each separately): - Wed, November 19, 6:30pm - 9:30pm - Sat, November 29, 5:30pm - 8:30pm - Fri, December 12, 6:00pm - 9:00pm - Mon, December 22, 2:00pm - 5:00pm Ages 11+ In this needle felting class, students will learn how to use special barbed needles to sculpt wool fibers into solid shapes and detailed designs. Each session will focus on building skills step by step–starting with simple forms and gradually moving into more intricate projects like animals, figures, or decorative objects. Students can expect to practice techniques such as shaping, layering, and adding fine details, as well as learning how to safely handle tools and materials. The class is designed to encourage creativity while giving participants the confidence to bring their own ideas to life through the art of needle felting! Students can develop a range of creative and practical skills, including: - Sculpting techniques: shaping wool into both simple and detailed forms. - Tool handling and safety: using felting needles correctly and safely. - Attention to detail: refining textures, features, and finishing touches. - Color blending: layering and mixing fibers to create depth and dimension. - Design skills: planning and bringing original ideas to life in 3D form. - Patience and focus: developing concentration and steady hand–eye coordination. - Creative expression: building confidence in personal artistic style. All materials will be provided by Catalyst or your instructor. About your instructor: Homeyra Shams is a visual artist with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from Boise State University and extensive experience teaching community art classes. She has led acrylic painting and felting workshops at the Boise Watershed and volunteered as an art instructor for refugee women through the International Rescue Committee. Her public artworks, including murals and chalk installations, can be seen in downtown Meridian, Julia Davis Park, and other spaces across the Treasure Valley. Proficient in acrylic, oil, watercolor, ceramics, felting, and crochet, Homeyra brings a versatile and thoughtful approach to her teaching. Her work, celebrated through local exhibitions and mural commissions, reflects her passion for cultural storytelling, creativity, and building community through art.
