Service Description

One-day workshop: Sunday, November 17, 6:00pm - 8:00pm Ages 18+ This workshop is ideal for those with the knowledge of basic knit and/or crochet stitches and simple projects. This workshop will provide students with a road map to reading and understanding the fundamental elements of a knitting or crochet pattern. Ali, your experienced instructor, will break down the industry standard components of a pattern, including tips and tricks for common snafus that can be frustrating to beginner knitters and crocheters. You'll learn about gauge--as well as why it matters--and how to select a pattern size for garments. Your instructor will also cover how to identify a well written pattern and how to spot red flags of poorly written patterns that will only end in frustration. You'll leave the Cat Classroom armed with a better understanding of how to navigate a written pattern in addition to some resource materials. Have a pattern that has been giving you fits, and you can't figure out why? Bring it with you! The last thirty minutes of class will be open discussion time for the instructor to help problem-solve pattern issues. Working through pattern issues with real examples helps sharpen that skill set! Learning to effectively navigate a written pattern is an essential step to move from a beginner to an intermediate or expert level of crocheting. Struggling through a pattern to end up with a finished product that looks nothing like the picture can be extremely discouraging to the new knitter or crocheter. All materials are provided for this offering. Optional items to bring: - Water in a spill-proof container - Layered clothing Scholarships for this and all of our other classes are available for those who otherwise would not be able to attend art classes, thanks to generous donations to our Art Start Fund.
